The Guiding Framework for the Design and Development of Kindergarten to Grade 12 Provincial Curriculum
“Competencies are critical for preparing students to successfully navigate their personal journeys and contribute to family, community and society… These competencies are based on international research and reflect priorities shared by education stakeholders across Alberta.”
(The Guiding Framework for the Design and Development of Kindergarten to Grade 12 Provincial Curriculum, Pg.15)
The collection of ORC resources strongly support three key competencies (managing information, critical thinking, and cultural and global citizenship) from The Guiding Framework for the Design and Development of Kindergarten to Grade 12 Provincial Curriculum.

“Cultural and Global Citizenship involves actively engaging with cultural, environmental, political or economic systems…
Indicators:
The ability to review, interpret, analyze, question, and assess information is a very complex skill set to acquire. Acquisition requires opportunities for meaningful practice seamlessly woven into daily learning. These skills cannot be taught in isolation; rather, they are taught through the Alberta Program of Studies.
Because of the strong alignment to the Alberta Program of Studies and the embedded supports for diverse learners, the ORC collection offers essential resources for teachers and students to learn, practice, and teach these skills. The wide range of resources included ensures that all students starting in kindergarten have opportunities to hone their skills in the managing information and critical thinking competencies.
As mentioned previously, in many ORC resources content that is related to different countries or cultures is written by in-country consultants. This provides users with the perspective and insights of others from around the world, broadening their cultural understanding and further supporting the cultural and global citizenship competency.
